Diego "Dipi" Kvitko, guitar maestro (from Argentina)

The contemporary tango scene cannot overlook the name Diego “Dipi” Kvitko — whether as a guitarist, composer, arranger, or educator. Without disregarding tradition, his artistry reflects a creative calling that is always ready to challenge convention.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1975, at a time when tango was already experiencing a decline in mass popularity, his early passion for Argentine music may well have contained the seeds of what would become a lifelong artistic mission — one rooted in aesthetic renewal and sustained by the strength needed to navigate the challenges of the industry.

A graduate and faculty member of the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda, Kvitko developed a close relationship with Aníbal Arias, the celebrated guitarist and member of the legendary Aníbal Troilo quartet. Affectionately known as “Dipi,” he studied under Arias and spent more than a decade performing as part of his mentor’s guitar quartet.

His extensive solo work and numerous collaborations have brought him together with such renowned artists as Jorge Vidal, Leopoldo Federico, Jairo, Víctor Lavallén, Peteco Carabajal, Walter “Chino” Laborde, Rudi Flores, Sandra Luna, José Ángel Trelles, Ricardo “Chiqui” Pereyra, Walter Romero, Omar Mollo, Daniel Melingo, Hugo Rivas, and Abel Córdoba, among many others — and the story continues.

The show encompasses a wide repertoire of traditional Argentine music — tangos, milongas, waltzes, and folk rhythms — all performed with a strong artistic identity and a distinctive personal style. Its contemporary perspective, expressed through refined arrangements and subtle nuances, makes it unique for its originality and avant-garde spirit, while preserving the traditional forms and colors of the genre.

The solo guitar is complemented by vocal pieces, and the repertoire can be presented as a concert or perfectly adapted for a milonga audience.

Improvisation is another of its defining elements, always remaining true to the essence and roots of Argentine music. The result is a captivating and participatory performance, where song and humor intertwine with stories, portraits, and anecdotes about the works and their creators.
